3 Tips for Longer Healthier Natural and Relaxed Hair
I've been an accidental naturalista and I've been a bone straight relaxer. Both textures had benefits, both had drawbacks. However we have more in common than you'd think. Regardless of how you choose to flaunt your tresses, there are 3 things that I've realized that I need to always do:
Contrary to popular belief, naturally curly hair isn't strong as steel wool. Its fragile and intricate. When you relax---your hair is even more delicate. Be gentle to your hair. Deep condition like your life depends on it and focus on a low manipulation routine. Treat your hair well---trust me it will grow.
My products may change but my hair care regimen has been consistent for 2 years. I started my journey by figuring out what my hair needed on a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule. My hair needs to be moisturized daily, deep conditioned weekly, and clarified monthly. Start with a schedule that you can manage.
There will be times when you dedication to maintaining healthy hair will waiver. My pregnancy with minion #2 was exhausting. So hair took a back seat to life and I sadly admit that wasn't even doing the bare minimum. I'd skip washing and deep conditioning for weeks. *eek* I relied my flat iron entirely too much. *gasp* After 2 months of pure neglect. I had to get 2 inches of split frayed ends chopped off. Submit to balance in your hair care. Find that place where your hair thrives but where you're not overwhelmed, then commit to it.
Last but not least---have fun! Your hair is an accessory not a burden. Enjoy it!
